West Maui coastline glowing at sunset

7-day itinerary

Maui in 7 Days

Haleakalā, Hāna and Molokini in one week without wrecking yourself. Built around a south-side base and the mornings when the wind is still down.

Balanced pace Mid to high budget Apr to Jun, Sep to Oct Updated August 3, 2026

Maui has three headline experiences and they sit in three directions. The mistake is treating them as a checklist to be done back to back. Sunrise at 10,000 feet followed by a beach day is fine. Sunrise followed by the Road to Hāna is a twenty-hour day that ruins the next one.

This plan uses a single south-side base in Kīhei or Wailea. It costs a little more driving on the Hāna day and saves you a whole afternoon of packing and re-checking in. If you have not picked a coast yet, start with where to stay on Maui.

What this week covers

  • Haleakalā sunrise, with the reservation timed properly
  • The Road to Hāna started before the crowd
  • A first-boat Molokini trip in flat morning water
  • Two south-side beach days that need no planning at all
Day 01

Land at OGG and settle south

Based in Kīhei or Wailea

Collect the car, shop once for the whole week and get to the beach before the sun goes. Nothing else today.

  1. Afternoon

Kahului airport and the grocery run

Costco sits minutes from OGG and is the cheapest stop on the island for water, sunscreen, snacks and fuel. Do it now rather than at a resort market later.

  2. 4pm

    Check in and swim

Kīhei for condos with kitchens, Wailea for resorts. Either way the beach is a short walk and the water is calm in the late afternoon.

  3. Sunset

    Keawakapu or Wailea Beach

Long, sandy and swimmable, with the sun dropping behind Lānaʻi. Turtles surface just off the rocks at either end.

  4. Tonight

    Confirm tomorrow’s reservations

Check your Haleakalā sunrise booking and the weather at the summit. If cloud is forecast solid, swap the sunrise to another morning now.
