Every measurement on this site, as a file

Six CSVs covering flights, rainfall, drive times and reservation windows. Free to use, no account, no email, and every row carries the source it came from and the date somebody checked it.

6 datasets 335 rows CC0, no credit required

These started as tables on the pages that needed them. They are here as files because a table gets retyped and a file gets cited, and a file that outlives the tab it came from should still be able to say where it came from.

So every row carries its own source and the date it was verified, in the row rather than in a header comment. Open any of these in a spreadsheet two years from now and the provenance is still attached to each number.

What is ours and what is not. The measurements belong to NOAA, the US Department of Transportation and OpenStreetMap, and each file says which. What is ours is the assembly: the joining, the medians and the naming. CC0 1.0 for our assembly. No credit required, though it is welcome.

Mainland flights to Hawaii

Every city pair with one end in Hawaii and one on the mainland, flown in both directions, with the real air time each way and the gap between them.

Method. 88,387 flights, one row per flight operated, aggregated to city pairs. A census rather than a sample. Medians, not means.

Inter-island flights

Every route between the Hawaiian islands, with time in the air against time in the timetable, flights a day, and how often they run late or cancel.

Method. One row per flight operated, aggregated to routes. Carriers below the federal reporting threshold are absent, which is why Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi are not in here.

Monthly climate by station

Rainfall and mean temperature for every month at five NOAA stations, chosen to cover the wet and dry side of each island people stay on.

Annual rainfall by area

Annual rainfall for the places people actually book, rather than for the island as a whole. Hilo takes twelve times what Kona does on the same island.

Method. Read from the operator page and quoted. Rechecked at least every 90 days, because these move without notice and the build fails when a date goes stale.

Using these

Take them. Put them in an article, a lecture, a model or a spreadsheet, with or without credit. There is no licence to click through and nothing to sign, and if you redistribute the drive times the only requirement is OpenStreetMap's, not ours.

Two things worth knowing before you rely on any of it. The flight files cover only carriers above the federal reporting threshold, which is why Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi are missing from them. The drive times are free-flow with no traffic model, so they are a floor rather than an estimate of your Tuesday afternoon.

If a figure stops matching its source, tell us and it gets recomputed and re-dated rather than quietly edited. If you need a cut of this that does not exist yet, ask, because it is usually a few lines against data already here.
